Well, I didn’t choose “Flux” as my handle/nickname for nothing. 😉
This one isn’t completely out of the blue, though. When I was a kid, I enjoyed model railroading quite a bit. I still do to a certain casual extent. I also played with my set of AFX slot cars quite a bit. Fast-forward to a few weeks ago when the family met for lunch after church at a nearby Applebees… which happened to be in the same plaza as a large hobby shop I was curious to look inside. Probably a bad idea, but I was fully prepared to walk out empty-handed with no new hobbies to worry about. Read the rest of this entry »
…but I’ve started cutting and pounding impressions into vegetable tanned cowhide again. After months of feeling the itch, and with a little encouragement from my better half, I bought a pile of supplies and kits and whipped out some things to sell at a table at the Celtic Faire that our church, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church of Tacoma, put on last month. Well, the Fourth of July Festival in Auburn is days in the past, and I have a few days before the Pacific Days Festival this Saturday. For noobs to this blog, I hosted free Lazer Tag games at the former, and will be doing the same at the latter. Read the rest of this entry »

Now that you know the ending, let’s fill in the back story before we proceed with the story of how it happened. Read the rest of this entry »
As you know, I’ll be running Laser Tag games under the ALTC banner for Auburn’s 4th of July Festival again this year. I will again be providing free laser tag games at the Auburn Parks 4th of July Festival this year. Fortunately for me, most of the preparations needed were done last year, and do not need to be done again. There are a few things I need to think about and try to work out, though. But as they say, getting there was half the fun… As long as you understand that by “fun” I actually meant “hell.”

It’s funny… life and kids… Shortly after his birthday this year, Nikolas was very interested in getting some Heelys. We shopped around and found that they ran about $60+ per pair. Nikolas decided that while he wanted them, he wasn’t sure he wanted to spend his ENTIRE birthday haul on one thing like that. So, the urge subsided, he spent his money on other things, and the interest itself waned over time. Alex admitted that Heelys were kind of cool, but wasn’t really interested in getting any at that time.

Alex has been having a hard time with band class this year. When he started band, it was because of a very smart, fun, energetic teacher who obviously enjoyed what she was doing, and knew how to teach a group of kids to enjoy learning their new instruments. She was friendly and approachable by kids and parents alike. Unfortunately, last year, she spent more time training to be a principal than teaching music. That’s where her career was leading, and so that’s how it was. Although Alex had substitutes a good 50% of the time, or more, he still enjoyed music/band.
