I have been experimenting with rechargable alkaline batteries with great success. eg. with 6 new duracell plus batteries in the compartment the max. voltage output is 9.65 volts, with 6 rechargable alkalines (Pure Energy) the output voltage is 9.97 (see photo of multimeter) I have also modded the battery compartment so that battery level can be monitored externally via a simple 0.1 pair of pins and a socket connected to a multimeter.
1. Holes were made using a heated pop rivet stem, approx. 1.5mm dia., at each end of the compartment 2. The tray removal handle was cut away to house a pair of 2.54 mm pins. |

Pins stuck in position using super glue.
3. Wires were soldered to each battery terminal connector, then run back inside the tray to the connector pins.
4. The battery tray access panel was modified to allow monitoring.
5.Picture showing loaded battery tray, with voltage of 9.96. All 16 tag units have now been using the rechargeable alkaline batteries, with little degredation in full charge voltage level. |

6. Tagger unit connected to multi meter. |
