The Merc III is essentially a P-90 recase for an LTTO [IRT-2x] drone. I started out with a cheap AEG P-90 ($30 at hobbytron.com) and gutted it. I saved the electronic trigger assembly, weights and the barrel as they would be useful later on. Otherwise I just scrapped the motor, magazine door, magazine catch, fake red dot sight, flashlight, and battery. |
First, I cut out parts of the stock so that the battery sled would fit inside on the right half of the gun. |
I then wired the battery pack first by removing the metal plate, as solder doesnt seem to bond to this metal, and replaced it with coiled, uninsulated copper wire. I then took the ground, positive and negative leads and soldered extra wiring so that the sled could be pulled out of the back end of the stock through the battery compartment door in order to replace the batteries. |
Next I took apart the polymer magazine and cut holes for the LCD screen and keypad. I also cut holes in the bottom directly below the control panel so the wires could be fitted through. |
On the drone, I cut out the platform that the dome sits in in order to attach the dome to the P90. I then cut out the top/front corner of the P90 so the dome platform would fit. I then drilled holes down into the main cavity for the dome wires. |

The Merc III incorporates a removable lens feature so it has both a wide angle/short range capability as well as a shallow angle/longer range capability. While it has the capability to take shots out to about 150-200 feet it is definately a short range combat weapon. |
To attach the IR LED in the P90 I took the 6 mm barrel from the original AEG airsoft weapon and superglued the LED inside the barrel and drilled a hole for the wires to come out of. Doing this made it alot easier to center the LED and know that it was straight in the weapon. |
I then took the screw-on silencer that came with the gun and cut it down to the right focal length of the lens. I then cut open the end of the silencer so the lens fits right in. I then superglued the whole assembly together and voila! a removable lens. |
The Merc III also incorporates hit lights and a vibrating motor that responds to hits from another player. I used partytagger's hit light mod and threw in a vibrating motor into the mix. |
Lastly were the touchups, including switches for the speakers and hit lights, a pushbutton on the handle for the shield and attaching the speaker to the left half of the gun after drilling some holes there. |
Finally I closed it all up and screwed it all together, topping it off with a Leapers 40 mm red dot scope on top. | |
This weapon is the perfect close range/urban combat weapon system. The unlensed LED has gotten at least 120 degrees in angle at a range of about 10 feet and the lensed LED can take targets out at approximately 150-200 feet. An overall excelent weapon that is comfortable to shoulder and cool looking as well. As always dont hesitate to email me if you have any questions regarding the Merc III. |
