I’ve been so focused on preparing for the lazer tag event on the 4th that I’ve all but completely ignored preparations for my Transformers convention, CybCon, on the 14th! I haven’t even kept completely on top of the registrations, and have about 10 more to add to my attendee list. Doh! I only have a week to make sure everything’s ready.

We don’t have an exclusive toy for me to box up at the last minute, though, so there’s not a whole lot for me to do. I should probably make a list, though, so I can check things off and make sure it’s all taken care of.

Yesterday…The 4th of July Festival at the park where I hosted free lazer tag games… Yesterday was fantastic. I am deeply thankful for all my wonderful helpers, not the least of which being my wife, Ingrid, and my co-host, Tod. Along with long-time club member and a good friend, Clay, and his family, we had the entire area set up an hour before the deadline, barely 30 minutes after we got started at 9. Since we all knew what to do, we got right to it, and it all went up smoothly and quickly. We ended up sitting around chatting for over an hour, waiting for the actual event to begin at 11am. 🙂 Read the rest of this entry »

The rehearsal for the July 4th Festival activity that we held last Saturday went well. Though there were less people than I had hoped for, wanting greater than 24 people playing tag to test out the line-up and flow, we still learned a few things and came up with some ideas for improvement for the 4th. By that virtue, the day was a success! For the deets, read the whole post. For those who would rather just go straight to the photo gallery, here you go:

Working hard all year on his Saxophone skillz, Alex showed his stuff last night along with the other kids in his 6th and 7th Grade Intermediate Band class. I digicammed the part he was in and uploaded it to YouTube for family to enjoy. Click the more for the embedded video. Read the rest of this entry »

While Alex was on his camping trip with Grandpa and Josh this weekend, his most recent report card came in the mail. Turns out, he got straight “A”s! Ok, well, a couple were A-, but still. He’s been working so hard lately and we’ve been riding him so hard about getting his homework done, doing any available extra credit, and overall putting in the effort and doing the work we know he is capable of, that we both felt the need to reward him for his grades. The question is, how? Read the rest of this entry »

With all this talk of the barriers I’m working on, I haven’t posted a single picture of my own. Well, I’m finally done making them all, and have already put them to good use. First, I set most of them up in the back yard so that Nikolas and his friends could play some laser tag as a b-day party activity. Then, I put some out at my ALTC game last Saturday for a couple Zone games. Read the rest of this entry »

Voiceover: “And this week in Lazer Tag news….”

I did some more play testing of the barriers. Ok, at this point, it’s not really testing so much as playing. 🙂 Read the rest of this entry »

Preparations for the 4th of July Festival have been taking up some of my free time of late. I’ve been working on making barriers, dealing with festival issues, and even getting a cool new banner to represent my club. Read the rest of this entry »

The new services are finally nearing completion, and are almost ready to be “turned on” for the users. This is a good thing in the long run, but my short term work load will spike as I get a slew of users who don’t understand the new, simpler system. Read the rest of this entry »
