SeaPUG Meeting, October 24, 2000

Our fourth meeting was lacking a presentation, so it was just a "meet and greet" kind of meeting. 9 people attended this month. We had new members join us, as well as several regularly attending members.

Meet and Greet
It didn't take long for the 9 attendees to show up. While they were trickling in, we fiddled with the comuter and audio trying to get some music piped into the room. After a while, Michael Chapman, who works at Attachmate, discovered the problem, and plugged in the audio cord. hehe. So, for most of the meeting, we had some background music, which was nice. Susan Bernick brought chips and dip, and those who were thirsty partook of the free beverages in the Attachmate cafeteria.
Rants
I really should have just gathered everyone to listen to me rant, as I ended up going off on the same rant a couple times to different people at the meeting. hehe. I was comparing my experience and thoughts on the PocketPC and the PalmOS. I won't go into it here, as I plan to write an article for our site about it.
Giveaways:
Even though we didn't have a presentation, we still had giveaways! In fact, I completely forgot to give away some software I had, but we can do that next month, or maybe December, just in time for the holidays. We DID give away: 4 copies (on floppy) of SmartTrinkets, a suite of useful tools for all kinds of applications; and an O'Reilly T-shirt. A stack of O'Reilly catalogs and discount coupons were available as well. We still have quite a few O'Reilly coupons and catalogs, so be sure to pick one up next month.
Other
A couple other members and I got to talking about all the cool things we could do... domain name registration (seapug.com or .org sounds nice. :), recorded, or even LIVE streaming video and audio of the meetings, and more. It will be interesting to see how soon some of these ideas can be implemented. Who knows, maybe we'll be the first PUG to offer live streams of it's monthly meetings. It would be awesome if we could get this set up for November, when Microsoft plans to present.
