SeaPUG Meeting, February, 2001

February's meeting was a little bit of unexpected fun, but that's what makes user groups so much fun. Though I hadn't had any volunteers for presentations in advance of the meeting, two members stepped forward to fill the time. Frank Blau volunteered to do a presentation on database options for the PalmOS, and Greg Pipkins shared an application he created, as well as a sneak peak at one he's working on.

People trickled into the meeting a little after we started, and we ended up with about 20 people. A couple more and we'd have broken our record! ;-) We introduced ourselves to the group, and started the meeting. As Frank was setting up his computer for the presentation, Greg Gaub had some fun telling people about a cool new game called "Autopond." (more info on the Palm Games page) He told the group about it, and beamed it to a couple people. We also fielded some "Helping Palms" questions from the group.

As soon as Frank was ready... and Greg was done ;-)... we received a well put and informative presentation on different database options for the PalmOS. Although there was a decidedly "programmer" slant to the information, as Frank pointed out ways of making your own database application from scratch, and what tools he used to make some of his own applications, there was quite a bit of useful and intriguing information shared.

Shortly after Frank finished up, Greg Pipkins took the stage with a show of a "magic 8-ball" type application he made for the Palm. He uses that application as a testing ground for the things he learns while exploring the world of PalmOS programming. He also gave us a sneak peek at a really neat game he's working on. He told us the basic structure of the game and how it would be played, and showed us a couple actual screen shots of the program in progress. He and Frank also helped a lot of people learn about programming applications for PalmOS programs.

We gave away some free software, and ended the meeting with a bit of mingling. Fun was had by all! :)
